The Manor House is original and furnished in authentic antiques. During the Revolutionary War, the Half Way House was Lafayette’s military headquarters. During the Civil War, it was Union General Butler’s headquarters. The Half Way House Restaurant is Virginia's finest old Tavern. Halfway between Richmond and Petersburg, it was built in 1760 as a stage-coach stop and Inn. Among its famous guests were George Washington, the Marquis de LaFayette, Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, Robert E. Lee, U.S. Grant, James Whitcomb Riley and scores of others.
